Project

A generous gift of western art and a wing to house it will allow TAM to almost double their gallery and lobby spaces and improve interactive educational spaces.  Olson Kundig Architects brought WCA to help with early design phase concepts to leverage this opportunity as they add to this landmark modern structure.

Process

TAM is known for innovative exhibits and community programming.  Through a series of four workshops, WCA worked with museum leadership, their owner’s representative and design team to closely examine and improve intuitive wayfinding and visitor flow, while creating stronger visual identity for exhibits, public programming, and amenities as part of a significantly expanded lobby.

Outcomes

Visitor flow from arrival to orientation, through new correctly proportioned galleries and a newly identified exit experience will enhance the outcomes of a generous family gift to TAM.  The position of the learning center for making physical and digital art and the visual signature of these engagement opportunities will increase visitor use.  Retail, cafe and event functions have been re-positioned to improve earned revenue and visitor experience.
