The easy answer is always to add more space. Instead, this museum planning process analyzed needs, examined current space functions, and rediscovered space in the central atrium spline. Originally, the area was choked with small rooms and free-standing post-modern architecture, precluding installation of art or other programmatic functions. A significant increase of exhibit and program space was created through a few surgical changes – the most sustainable solution.

Looking inward translated into huge opportunities for the museum to look outward — providing new galleries, program spaces and long awaited space for younger visitors within the current museum envelope.

“Meeting with the our trustees, staff, and stakeholders, Walt did an audit of how the building currently did and did not meet our organizational and programmatic needs. He and his associates synthesized that information, adding their own analysis, to create a master plan that included both best practices and cost estimates. This expertise resulted in a plan that was comprehensive, cost and space effective.”
